Vincent Smarkusz

Undiscovered American Genius in Modern Art

Smarkusz's Surreal Figurative/Abstract Expressionist paintings

In the 1950s Vincent created a Surreal blending of Figurative and Abstract Expressionism

In 1951 Vincent  experimented with Gestural Abstraction, Delcalcomania and Grattage, Color field painting, and his own innovations in Abstract Expressionist and Surrealist painting techniques.  By doing so, he was able to explore his own unconscious participation in the work.  He practiced his ability in allowing the medium and his own automatic movements to suggest and guide the emergence of his imagery.
